1. Choose the right membership application
Full member (please note that the application is only in Finnish)
A full member must be engaged in the provision of travel packages or combined travel arrangements under the Package Travel Directive or in the brokerage of travel packages or individual travel services. A full member must be registered with the Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority if the activity requires it. In order to be accepted as a full member, a company must have at least one audited financial statement.
If a company has not been in a Trade register for at least one year and does not have its first audited financial statement, it may be accepted as a probationary member until it meets the eligibility criteria for full membership. The maximum duration of the probationary membership is 2 years, during which time the Board of Directors must decide whether to accept the probationary member as a full member or to reject it.
Partner member
A partner member is a company that is not engaged in the provision of travel packages or combined travel arrangements under the Travel Package Directive as its main activity. A partner member may also be a foreign entity engaged in the provision of package travel or combined travel arrangements under the Package Travel Directive or in the brokerage of package or individual travel services. The applicant company for partner membership must be registered in the supervisory register of the Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority or an equivalent foreign authority.
Applicants for partner membership may include airlines, accommodation providers, shipping companies or foreign travel agents/tour operators.
Associate member
An associate member is a Finnish or foreign legal entity whose membership is justified for the Association.
Among others, agents providing tourism services, tourism education institutions, consultants, media, technology companies and tourism associations can apply for associate membership.
2. For help filling in the membership application form, contact the SMAL office:

3. The Board approves members
The SMAL Board meets around 7-8 times a year, every 1.5 to 2 months. Within about a week of the decision, the association’s office confirms the approved membership and provides the membership number and certificate of membership. Once approved, the member can use the association’s logo in their own marketing communications and participate in association activities and events.
