Keynote speech by Pawel Niewiadomski, Chairman of ECTAA
Pawel Niewiadomski

Pawel Niewiadomski holds a diploma in Foreign Trade at University of Łódź, as well as a master’s degree in Tourism at Katowice School of Economics. Owner of a successful niche tour operator/travel agency and MICE organiser since 1992, he rapidly got involved in the Polish Chamber of Tourism (PIT). After having been Vice-President of this organisation from 2002 until 2012, he was elected President in 2012, managing to fully restructure PIT as a professional trade organisation. At national level, he is also involved in APJC since 2006. Joining ECTAA in 2004, Pawel Niewiadomski was elected President of the European association in 2018, bringing 28 years’ experience in the travel trade and executive of a trade organisation to the service of an industry facing major challenges in a changing economic and regulatory environment.

Ben Bouldin

As Vice President of EMEA, Ben provides leadership to the Royal Caribbean International EMEA business. During his time at Royal Caribbean, Ben’s insight, innovation and leadership has been fundamental to the growth of the UK and Irish markets. Since the end of 2019, Ben has been building on his industry leading track-record while helping the team reach new heights across the whole of EMEA.  Ben has been an integral part of the business since first joining as Director of Sales in 2014 following 17 years at PepsiCo International. As well as being one of the cruise industry’s most dynamic leaders, Ben is dad to three cheeky young boys and a devoted Arsenal fan.

Panelist - Carsten Østberg

For the past 15 years, Carsten has been responsible for leading operations and business development within CIBTvisas and Comet Consular Services. Most recently, he became part of CIBTvisas in 2018 as the division leader of CIBTvisas in the Nordics and responsible for all aspects of CIBTvisas in the Nordics. He has over 15 years of experience in the business travel industry, including managing both operational and sales teams. Before becoming part of the consular industry, Carsten also worked in the logistics, retail and leisure travel industries and the Royal Danish Army. 

Carsten is an experienced leader who has worked in many different countries and cultures. He is focused on developing the pan-European market to its full potential so that our customers have access to the best services on the market.

Panelist - Ian Chapman

Ian began his career with TUI in 1990 as a Rep in Ibiza, and then worked in a variety of roles, including TUI UK & Ireland Operations Director, where he was on the board of TUI’s retail estate of one thousand travel agent shops, and Director of Holiday Experience, responsible for customer service, business travel, Health & Safety and the Ski program.

In 2015, Ian played a key role in the leadership team that merged all TUI destination operations into one TUI division for tours and activities. The division went through a period of rapid organic growth, complemented by two key acquisitions; Musement, an online travel agent for experiences and one of Europe’s most successful travel start-ups, and Destination Management, a network of specialist DMCs, including Intercruises – the world’s leading cruise ground handling business. In 2020, the division was named TUI Musement and Ian was appointed as Chief Operations Officer, overseeing the direction of operations and service delivery worldwide, encompassing more than 6000 staff in over 50 countries.

In addition to operating vacations for the 28 million annual TUI customers, Ian’s team also supports the delivery of experiences available via the Musement platform and ground handling services to the world’s major cruise lines. During 2020 and 2021, Ian has led his team to support the travel restart, adapting to various requirements in different destinations as guests returned. His team has also played an integral role in defining and implementing TUI’s digital first service approach, combining modern technology with a human touch to deliver a more personalised and modern service to all TUI guests.

Dimitris Manikis was appointed President and Managing Director for EMEA in April 2018. He is based at Wyndham Hotels & Resorts’ London office.

In his current role as President of EMEA, he is responsible for the development of all of Wyndham Hotels & Resorts’ brands in the EMEA region as well as maximising the performance of all new and existing franchise and managed hotels. He focuses on driving the strategic objectives of Wyndham Hotels & Resorts including quality and technology solutions as well as new business, loyalty, sales and marketing.

Dimitris Manikis has a long-standing career and deep knowledge of the hospitality industry. Prior to joining Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, he spent over 27 years with RCI, the worldwide leader in vacation exchange, across a number of senior roles, and most recently served as Vice President of Business Development for EMEA. Earlier in his career, he also held a number of key positions in the region as Managing Director of RCI Greece and RCI South Africa.

A Greek national, Dimitris was born in Athens and holds a Bachelor degree in Tourism and Administration from the Technical University of Patras in Greece, and an MSc Postgraduate degree in Tourism Marketing from the University of Surrey. His passion for people and work ethic comes from his father, who built up a grocery retail business in Athens where Dimitris learned the value of elevated customer service, having a positive outlook and hard work as being the foundations of success in both business and life.

Anders Kjong, WebBeds President – Europe, has a strong background in senior management covering an array of technology businesses across a broad spectrum of industries. His vast experience includes being a Founder, Board member, CEO and various senior Digital roles. Anders has recently been elevated within WebBeds, the world’s second largest and fastest-growing bedbank, to be responsible for the commercial operation in Europe including the key sales and hotel contracting functions as well as strategy, business intelligence and commercial technology. Originally from Denmark, Anders is based in Palma de Mallorca.
